Cycling and Walking the Via Verde
From Rails to Trails
The Artà Greenway (Via Verde) is a scenic walking and cycling path that begins in Son Servera and follows the route of the former railway line that once connected the town with Artà. After the trains stopped running in the 1970s, the track was transformed into a 29-kilometre trail, giving new life to the route as a space for leisure and eco-friendly travel.
A Landscape of Variety
The path leads through a changing landscape of farmlands, orchards, pine forests, and rolling hills, with views of the Serra de Llevant mountains in the distance. Along the way, you’ll pass restored railway stations and small villages, each offering places to rest, take photos, or enjoy local food. In spring, the route is especially beautiful when the almond blossoms are in bloom.
Perfect for All Ages
As the route follows the gentle gradients of the old railway, it’s ideal for both cycling and walking, and can easily be enjoyed by families with children. Bike rental shops are available in Son Servera and nearby resorts, making it simple to plan a half-day or full-day trip. The trail is well signposted, with shaded areas and rest stops to break up the journey.
A Different Way to Explore the East Coast
For visitors wanting to explore Mallorca beyond the beaches, the Via Verde offers a unique chance to experience the island’s rural charm at a slower pace. Whether you tackle the full stretch to Artà or just enjoy a short stroll from Son Servera, it’s one of the most rewarding outdoor experiences in the region.
