Fundación Yannick i Ben Jakober – Sa Bassa Blanca Museum (msbb)

Nestled in a protected wildlife sanctuary just outside Alcúdia, Mallorca, the Fundación Yannick i Ben Jakober—housed within the Sa Bassa Blanca Museum (msbb)—has been a unique blend of art, architecture, and nature since its opening in 1994. Established by artists Yannick Vu and Ben Jakober, this foundation is committed to preserving Spain’s historical heritage, fostering fine arts development, and creating an inspiring dialogue between cultures and the environment

A Historic Masterpiece: Hassan Fathy’s Architecture

Originally a 17th‑century Mallorcan finca, the property was transformed in 1978 when Vu and Jakober commissioned renowned Egyptian architect Hassan Fathy to create its main building. As the only example of Fathy’s European work, the structure blends traditional Hispano‑Moorish style—such as the coffered ceiling with a central courtyard—and was officially listed as a heritage landmark by the Government of Mallorca in 2011

“Nins” and the Portrait Collection

One of the museum’s crown jewels is the “Nins” Collection: more than 150 exquisite Old Master portraits of children from across Europe (16th–19th centuries). Displayed in a lovingly restored cistern, these portraits reveal evolving fashions, jewelry, toys, and even political alliances of their time

Diverse Exhibition Spaces

The museum’s varied spaces reflect its founders’ eclectic vision. Highlights include the SoKraTES Gallery, which houses a spectacular Swarovski crystal curtain, a fossil skeleton of a Siberian woolly rhinoceros, and artworks by both founding artists alongside works by major figures like Miquel Barceló.  Outdoor features include a sculpture park showcasing large granite animal sculptures and a fragrant rose garden (OlivArt) featuring centuries‑old olive trees, symbolizing peace

Committed to Conservation, Education & Culture

The Fundación Yannick i Ben Jakober remains devoted to the restoration of Spanish heritage and actively promotes art and biodiversity education. Its vibrant programs include guided visits, school workshops, and multilingual tours designed to engage both children and adults. The foundation sustains itself independently through donations and legacies, without public funding

Whether you're drawn by the beauty of Fathy’s architecture, the haunting charm of the “Nins” portraits, or the tranquil sculpture gardens, the Sa Bassa Blanca Museum offers an unforgettable experience—where art, nature, and cultural heritage come together in harmony.
