Urban Cove Divided Between Sand and Rocks
Buguenvíl·lia, also known as Caló dels Malls or Caló dels Mais, lies along a small coastal stretch at the edge of Calvià, bordering the municipality of Palma. The beach is split into two distinct sections: the western side features fine golden sand with a sandy seabed, while the eastern side is rockier, with gravel, pebbles, and patches of washed-up posidonia.
The backdrop consists of tourist accommodations and residential buildings extending almost to the shoreline, giving the beach a more urban, enclosed atmosphere, while still retaining some natural appeal. Despite its developed setting, the beach remains quiet and largely uncrowded, even during the peak season.
Boating & Water Activities
Anchoring is generally not recommended directly in front of this beach due to less favourable underwater conditions. However, the beach’s close proximity to the Escola Nacional de Vela Calanova, only 0.3 nautical miles away, means that numerous sailing boats and trainees often glide across the waters as they practice. The protected bay makes it an ideal training area for novice sailors learning to navigate the local wind and sea conditions.
Access & Popularity
Reaching Buguenvíl·lia is simple, with signposted roads leading to a small street providing direct access. There is free parking nearby, and public transport stops approximately 100 metres from the beach. Thanks to its tucked-away location and small size, the beach sees few tourists, and is mainly frequented by local residents looking for a quiet, nearby escape.
