The Largest and Liveliest of Cala Sant Vicenç’s Coves
Cala Barques is the most prominent of the four beaches in Cala Sant Vicenç, nestled at the foot of dramatic cliffs and separated from Cala Clara by the rocky Punta dels Ferrers. Despite the surrounding tourist resorts and residential homes, the cove retains hints of its marine heritage—most notably through the old stone jetty that once supported a fishing village. The beach is a popular destination for families, couples, and day-trippers, drawn by its cinematic landscape and proximity to the prehistoric caves of s'Alzinaret, just a short walk away.
Scenic Swimming and Cautious Anchoring
The turquoise waters and sandy seabed make for ideal swimming and snorkelling conditions, though care must be taken with boats: a flagstone lies close to the surface about 200 metres offshore, and north-northeast winds can make anchoring tricky. Otherwise, depth reaches about three metres at 300 metres out, and the seabed is mostly sand.
Easy to Reach – But Not Fully Accessible
Access is straightforward by car, with clear signage and free parking nearby. The final descent involves a set of non-accessible stone steps, but public buses also stop in the vicinity. Given its ease of access and coastal beauty, Cala Barques tends to be busy, especially during high season.
