A Legendary Beach Framed by Forest

Also known as Cala Pi de sa Posada, Cala Formentor is one of Mallorca’s most iconic beaches—famed not only for its crystal-clear waters and soft white sand, but also for its association with Hotel Formentor, a haven for writers, artists and statesmen including Winston Churchill and Octavio Paz. Nestled at the base of a lush headland covered in pines and holm oaks, the trees here grow almost to the water’s edge, giving the beach a serene, forested feel.

A Dream for Boaters – But With Caution

The anchoring conditions are generally excellent, with a sandy seabed at around five metres depth just 300 metres from shore. However, mariners should avoid the channel between the beach and Illa de Formentor due to its shallow depth (only about one metre). Winds from the southeast to southwest can unsettle anchors, so caution is advised when conditions shift.

Access & Amenities in a Popular Retreat

Easily accessible by car or public bus, Cala Formentor draws large crowds in high season. Parking is available near the beach, though limited, so arriving early is recommended. A full range of services is available, including rentals, showers, restaurants, first aid, and watersports, making it an ideal day-trip destination for visitors seeking both natural beauty and comfort.
