A Beach with Royal & Artistic Neighbours

Located just outside Palma, Cala Major lies near the Palace of Marivent, summer home of the Spanish Royal Family, and the Pilar i Joan Miró Foundation, where the renowned surrealist Joan Miró spent his final decades. These cultural and royal ties give Cala Major a unique place in Mallorca’s urban beach scene.

Regenerated Sands & Urban Charm

Once in decline, Cala Major underwent an artificial regeneration in the late 20th century, bringing in fresh sand while preserving the natural rocks. A small breakwater, now used as a sunbathing platform, divides the beach into two sections. Flanked by towering hotels and cliffs, it offers both urban energy and convenient access, making it a popular choice for both locals and visitors.

Anchoring Restrictions & Calm Waters

While its sandy seabed and five-metre depth are ideal for anchoring, the proximity to the royal palace means that anchoring is strictly prohibited for security reasons. The nearest port is Escola Nacional de Vela de Calanova, just half a nautical mile away. The beach is easily accessed by bus, with a stop just 100 metres away, and paid parking is available nearby.
