Tranquility in the Heart of Formentor

Cala Murta is a beautifully remote s-shaped inlet, surrounded by natural woodland and steep cliffs that frame the beach in spectacular fashion. On one side, holm oaks cling to rocky slopes, while on the other lies the possessió of Cala Murta and the Oratori Mare de Déu de Formentor, both nestled within pine forest and forming part of the protected Fundació Rotger-Villalonga estate. The beach itself is a peaceful, semi-circular strip of pebbles and sand, with a torrent flowing into the sea and very little urban development in sight.

A Perfect Refuge for Anchoring

The cove’s narrow entry and curved shoreline make it an ideal spot for anchoring, particularly because it is well sheltered from the northerly winds. Depths range from 11 metres at the mouth to 8 metres at 200m, and 4 metres closer to shore, over a rocky seabed blanketed in seaweed. Its calm, protected waters make it a favourite among sailors looking for solitude.

A Peaceful Retreat with Limited Foot Access

Access by car is possible up to the entrance of the Cala Murta estate, after which visitors must walk the final 1.7 kilometres along a scenic track through protected woodland. Vehicle access is restricted, helping preserve the quiet, untouched atmosphere. The beach is usually frequented by hikers, nature lovers, and young people from summer colonies, making it a serene and relatively quiet escape on the Formentor peninsula.
