Historic Charm in a Residential Setting
Set between Punta de Cas Català and Cala Guix, Cala Nova lies at the border where Calvià ends and Palma begins, within the peaceful suburb of Sant Agustí. This cove has long-standing ties to Palma’s history, where some of the city’s earliest holiday homes were built in the early 20th century. Small and quiet, the beach is primarily used by local residents, offering a more tranquil alternative to the busier city beaches.
Home to Mallorca’s National Sailing School
Cala Nova is best known for hosting the Escola Nacional de Vela Calanova, a prominent sailing school that also adjoins a small artificial port. While visiting boats are sometimes accepted if moorings are available, navigators must exercise caution. The port is susceptible to challenging east and southeast winds, and boats must remain alert for the constant flow of small sailing craft from the school.
Anchoring Restrictions Near Royal Waters
Between Cala Nova and neighbouring Cala Major, there are occasional opportunities to anchor, though these are often restricted due to the proximity to Palacio Marivent — the summer residence of the Spanish Royal Family. For this reason, local navigation is subject to security regulations, and boaters are advised to proceed carefully in this zone.
Access Tip: Entry to the beach is via a staircase off Calle Joan Miró.
Anchoring Note: Observe all port guidelines and avoid restricted waters near Palacio Marivent.
