Casal Solleric
Situated on the elegant Passeig del Born, the Casal Solleric is one of Palma’s most striking Baroque mansions, now transformed into a vibrant art and cultural centre. With its grand façade, ornate balconies, and ever-changing exhibitions, it’s both a historical landmark and a hub for contemporary creativity.
From Noble Residence to Cultural Venue
Built in the mid-18th century for the Marquis of Solleric, this palatial residence was designed to impress, reflecting the wealth and social status of Mallorca’s aristocracy. The building features a mix of Baroque and Rococo influences, evident in the elaborate stucco work, wrought-iron balconies, and decorative stone carvings.
Today, it is owned by the Ajuntament de Palma and functions as a public cultural space, offering free access to many of its exhibitions.
Architectural and Artistic Highlights
Visitors enter through a majestic arched gateway into a central courtyard framed by stone columns and staircases. The interior houses a series of grand halls and intimate rooms, many retaining original period features. The exhibition spaces are light-filled and adaptable, allowing for a dynamic programme of contemporary art, photography, and design shows.
The mansion itself is a work of art — from the intricate ironwork of the balconies to the refined symmetry of its façade, it’s a must-see for architecture enthusiasts.
A Cultural Stop on the Passeig del Born
Located at the heart of Palma’s shopping and cultural district, Casal Solleric is an easy and worthwhile addition to a day exploring the city centre. It often hosts artist talks, workshops, and evening openings, making it a lively cultural touchpoint for both locals and visitors.
