Cor de Jesús (Sacred Heart of Jesus Statue & Viewpoint)
Perched high above Esporles, the Sacred Heart of Jesus statue — Cor de Jesús — is one of the most iconic viewpoints in the area, offering sweeping vistas over the valley, Palma Bay, and the Tramuntana peaks. It’s a peaceful, scenic hike with spiritual and panoramic rewards.
A Monument of Faith and Local Devotion
The statue was erected in 1940 by local sculptor Bartomeu Amorós and stands with Christ’s arms outstretched above the forested hills. Its pedestal bears the inscription: “Sagrat Cor de Jesús, el poble d’Esporles confia amb vos” — “Sacred Heart of Jesus, the people of Esporles trust in you.” Though modest in size compared to global counterparts, the figure’s serene presence and dramatic setting make it a beloved symbol for locals and a peaceful pilgrimage for visitors.
A Forest Trail to the Summit
The route begins in the village, following the same general direction as the Ermita de Maristella. After a steady climb through shady holm oak and Mediterranean pine forest, you’ll reach a fork where the trail branches off toward Cor de Jesús. The final section is steeper but manageable, leading to a small plateau with the statue and panoramic views over the Esporles valley, Palma’s coastline, and the surrounding mountain ridges. Wild herbs and birdsong accompany you throughout the climb, adding to the tranquil atmosphere.
Hiking Details & Trail Tips
The walk is popular with locals and visitors alike, particularly in spring and autumn when conditions are cooler and visibility is at its best. Expect a round-trip hike of around 1–1.5 hours, depending on your pace. The path is well-maintained, though walking shoes and water are recommended. The hilltop offers little shade, so early morning or late afternoon are the most comfortable times to visit, especially in summer.
