Embassament de Cúber

Set high in the Tramuntana mountains, Cúber Reservoir is one of the most scenic and tranquil walking spots in Escorca — a place where glassy waters, dramatic peaks, and peaceful trails combine for a perfect outdoor escape.

A Reservoir with Mountain Charm

Although man-made, the Embassament de Cúber blends beautifully with its natural surroundings. Completed in the 1970s to help supply water to Palma, the reservoir sits in a broad glacial valley between Puig Major, Puig de l’Ofre, and Morro de Cúber. At around 750 metres above sea level, the lake reflects the towering limestone peaks around it, offering some of the island’s most photogenic views. Whether you're hiking, birdwatching, or simply enjoying a peaceful picnic, Cúber is a place to slow down and take in the serenity of the Tramuntana.

Easy Trails & Hiking Opportunities

A circular walking route loops around the lake, taking roughly 1.5 hours at a relaxed pace. The trail is wide, mostly flat, and suitable for families — with grazing sheep, pine trees, and mountain air for company. For those looking for a bigger challenge, Cúber is also a popular starting point for longer routes, including hikes to Puig de l’Ofre, Tossals Verds, and sections of the GR-221 Dry Stone Route. From spring to early autumn, the area is alive with wildflowers, butterflies, and the occasional mountain goat along the ridgelines.

Access & Practical Info

Cúber is located on the Ma-10 mountain road, just beyond the Gorg Blau reservoir. There's a free public car park at Sa Font des Noguer, with access to the circular trail from there. Facilities are minimal — no café or toilets — so it’s best to bring your own water and snacks. Swimming is not permitted, as the reservoir is part of Mallorca’s water supply. Still, it's one of the most peaceful and rewarding places to visit in Escorca, especially if you enjoy quiet nature walks and stunning mountain scenery.
