Ermita de Maristella & Castellot Viewpoint

A peaceful forest walk leads to this secluded hermitage and scenic hilltop lookout — a tranquil escape that blends nature, history, and sweeping views above Esporles.

A Woodland Ascent to a Sacred Site

Just a short drive or walk from the village centre, the Ermita de Maristella is a 19th-century hermitage set within a wooded hollow of holm oaks and strawberry trees. Built as a place of retreat and prayer, it remains well cared-for by the local community. The route to the hermitage follows a traditional forest track with stone terraces and dry-stone walls typical of the Tramuntana, gradually climbing through shaded pine and oak groves. Along the way, you’ll spot waymarkers and local flora, including wild rosemary, lavender, and mastic bushes.

Castellot Viewpoint & Christ the Redeemer

Continue just above the hermitage to reach the Castellot — the site of a former medieval watchtower, now marked by a striking statue of Christ the Redeemer with outstretched arms overlooking the Esporles valley. Though the original tower is no longer standing, the panoramic views remain superb: gaze across the tiled rooftops of Esporles, the olive terraces of Son Cabaspre, and the distant coastline toward Palma Bay. It’s a popular local picnic spot and ideal for photographers or anyone seeking a quiet moment with a view.

Trail Access & Conditions

The circular walk to the hermitage and Castellot begins at the Camí des Correu or near the Font d’en Baster, depending on your chosen route. The path is well-maintained but moderately steep in places, suitable for active walkers and families with older children. Allow around 2 hours return with time to explore and rest. It’s best enjoyed in spring or autumn when the woodland is at its greenest, though it remains pleasant year-round thanks to tree cover and mountain breezes.
