Ermita de Santa Magdalena

Ermita de Santa Magdalena

Ermita de Santa Magdalena

Rising above the Inca plain atop Puig de Santa Magdalena, this small 13th-century hermitage offers one of the most peaceful and panoramic escapes in central Mallorca. Combining Gothic religious heritage, natural beauty, and sweeping views, the Ermita de Santa Magdalena is a cherished retreat for locals and a rewarding destination for visitors.

A Spiritual Outpost Since the 1200s

The hermitage is dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene, and tradition holds that it was built shortly after the Christian conquest of Mallorca. Though modest in size, the whitewashed chapel is full of character, with pointed arches, vaulted ceilings, and stone altars that reflect its medieval origins. Periodic renovations over the centuries have preserved its charm while maintaining its simplicity.

A statue of the saint greets visitors at the entrance, and the grounds are often decorated with flowers or candles left by pilgrims and local families.

Panoramic Views & Picnic Areas

The setting is what makes the ermita truly special. Located at 287 metres above sea level, the circular plateau offers 360-degree views over Inca, Binissalem, and as far as the Tramuntana mountains and Bay of Alcúdia. Pine trees, picnic benches, and a nearby viewpoint cross make it ideal for a peaceful afternoon.

The site is especially popular for sunset viewing, picnics, and short walks, as well as for local celebrations such as Easter Monday pilgrimages.

Access & Atmosphere

Visitors can drive up a winding road directly to the summit or hike via trails from Inca. There’s a small car park, a picnic area, and a traditional restaurant near the chapel that opens seasonally. It’s a serene and family-friendly outing just minutes from the bustle of the town below.
