A Remote Beach Near La Fortalesa

Tucked between La Roja and Punta de l’Avançada, El Caló lies at the foot of a wide sea inlet that ends in a quiet, virgin gravel and pebble beach. The beach’s formation is owed to a torrent that flows into the sea, depositing sediment that gave rise to this coastal strip. On both sides, limestone cliffs and scrubland frame the scene, while the 17th-century fortress of La Fortalesa watches over from above, offering one of the most iconic panoramic views in the area.

Unsuitable for Boats, Ideal for Solitude

The marine and underwater conditions around El Caló are unsuitable for anchoring due to exposure to easterly and southerly winds, a rocky seabed, and dense seaweed. Depths vary from six metres offshore to just two closer in. While not ideal for boaters, the beach's isolation and natural clarity make it a rewarding spot for those seeking true peace and seclusion.

Hard to Reach, Easy to Love

Despite being close to Port de Pollença, El Caló remains largely unknown and rarely visited. You can drive as far as the Formentor road, near the aero-naval base, before beginning a challenging 4km walk through restricted military zones. A roadside wall serves as a guide toward the beach. This arduous access route deters most visitors, ensuring tranquil surroundings and an unspoiled atmosphere for those who make the effort.
