Sunbathe in Peace Beside Historic Salt Flats

Es Coto, also known as Platja de s’Estany, offers a peaceful escape just south of Campos, where old salt extraction facilities—once vital to the region’s economy—still quietly mark the landscape. Behind the modest residential and hotel development, you’ll spot relics like sluice gates, stone channels, and electrical pumps used to harness seawater. This backdrop gives Es Coto a unique blend of local heritage and tranquil coastline.

Shallow Waters and a Natural Rock Reef

The fine golden sand is interspersed with low rocks and posidonia, creating a scenic but not ideal bathing environment. A natural rocky reef lies just beneath the surface and runs all the way to the shore, making swimming difficult. However, the beach’s shallow slope and calm nature make it perfect for sunbathers seeking quiet and seclusion.

Anchoring at a Safe Distance

While the rocky seabed isn’t ideal for swimmers, it does offer safe anchoring conditions for boats. At just 250 metres from shore, the depth reaches 7.5 metres, while at 50 metres it’s still only half a metre deep. Access is easy by car, with free parking nearby, and the nearest bus stop is 700 metres away, making Es Coto a convenient yet low-key retreat for beach lovers.
