A Popular Family Beach with Maritime History
Just a short stroll from the fishing harbour and marina of Colònia de Sant Jordi, Platja des Dolç is a well-loved beach that combines white, fine-grained sand with a lively maritime charm. The area was historically known for its salt pans at s’Estany and sa Vall—still the only ones actively operating on Mallorca. Today, this stretch of coast is a favourite with locals from Ses Salines, Palma, and the surrounding villages, many of whom own summer homes nearby.
Protected Waters and Scenic Views
Despite the occasional patches of seaweed and rocky seabed, the beach remains ideal for wading and relaxing. The depth ranges from two to three metres, and boats often anchor offshore in the clear, sheltered waters. The nearby islets of na Guardis and others form a natural breakwater, maintaining the clarity of the sand and seabed and enhancing the appeal for swimming or simply soaking up the views.
Dive Among Ancient Shipwrecks
Platja des Dolç is also a fantastic diving location. Between the beach, na Guardis, and the marina, divers can explore remnants of a Punic shipwreck and a Roman galley, resting at depths of two to six metres. Access is easy, although parking is 250 metres away, and the nearest bus stop is equally close. The addition of a coastal promenade has brought in more tourists, but the atmosphere remains laid-back and authentic.
