Finca Raixa – Grand Estate with UNESCO-Level Garden Heritage

Set against the foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana, the Finca Raixa is a magnificent example of Mallorcan aristocratic heritage. This elegant Italian-style country estate blends historical architecture, formal gardens, and educational spaces — and today serves as a UNESCO World Heritage interpretation centre for the Tramuntana landscape.

A Noble Estate with Centuries of History

Raixa originated in Moorish times and expanded under the Despuig family during the 18th century. Cardinal Antoni Despuig transformed the estate into a grand villa surrounded by formal terraces, fountains, Mediterranean groves, and the monumental stone staircase leading from the garden’s lower levels up to panoramic viewpoints. The estate's symmetrical design and agricultural layout reflect its dual role as a showpiece and working possession.

Gardens, Fountains & Interpretation Centre

Visitors can walk through several distinct garden zones: the orchards and "Tarongers" citrus garden, the gallery-style middle garden with its central fountain, and the entrance garden with its small reflecting pond. Inside the villa, purpose-renovated rooms house the Serra de Tramuntana Interpretation Centre, which explores UNESCO heritage themes, traditional practices, and ecological features of the mountain region.

Cultural Programming & Visitor Experience

Raixa hosts guided tours and cultural events, such as summer evening concerts, offering visitors a deeper connection to the estate’s seasonal beauty and historical significance.  Preservation projects between 2003–2009 restored classic features like dry-stone walls, fountains, and agricultural buildings — making Raixa both visually captivating and classically Mallorcan.
