Fundació Miró Mallorca
Perched in a quiet area of Palma's southwest, the Fundació Miró Mallorca is both an art museum and a deeply personal insight into the creative world of Joan Miró, one of Spain’s most celebrated 20th-century artists. Unlike a traditional gallery, this foundation gives visitors the rare chance to explore Miró’s actual studios, view his paintings, sculptures, and sketches, and step into the artistic process behind his work.
Miró’s Home and Legacy in Mallorca
Although born in Barcelona, Joan Miró spent the last 30 years of his life living and working in Palma. He donated his home, studios, and extensive body of work to the city with the intention of nurturing artistic creation for future generations. Today, the foundation continues his vision by supporting contemporary artists while preserving his legacy.
The site includes three main buildings: Miró’s original studio (Son Boter), his purpose-built studio by architect Josep Lluís Sert, and the main museum space, opened in 1992.
Art, Architecture & Creative Energy
Inside the museum, visitors will find over 6,000 pieces by Miró, including paintings, ceramics, drawings, engravings, and personal objects. The galleries are filled with colour, movement, and surrealist symbolism. The architecture itself reflects Miró’s style — bright, modern, and filled with light.
You can also visit the exact studio space where Miró painted, preserved just as he left it, with brushes, canvases, and inspirational objects scattered in place. The nearby Son Boter farmhouse, covered in graffiti-like sketches drawn directly on the walls, reveals his experimental approach and humour.
A Peaceful Cultural Retreat
Set against a backdrop of pine trees and sea views, the Fundació Miró Mallorca is more than a museum — it’s a sanctuary of creativity. Quiet, spacious, and thoughtfully designed, it offers a very different experience from the busy Old Town and is a top recommendation for anyone interested in modern art, creative spaces, or Spanish cultural heritage.
