Iglesia de Sant Vicenç Ferrer

Tucked away in the heart of Manacor, the Church of Sant Vicenç Ferrer is a serene and elegant building that once formed part of a 17th-century Dominican convent. With its restrained Baroque facade, spacious cloister, and long-standing ties to the town’s cultural identity, it offers a peaceful alternative to the grander Parroquia dels Dolors.

A Dominican Legacy

The church was originally constructed in the late 1600s as part of the Convent of Sant Vicenç Ferrer, named after the Valencian preacher and theologian canonised in 1455. It served both religious and educational purposes for the Dominican order, and much of the adjoining convent structure has been preserved — including the graceful internal courtyard (cloister) and arched walkways.

The church itself has a modest yet dignified Baroque-style exterior, with a large arched entrance and rose window above. Inside, the space is simple but atmospheric, with whitewashed walls, side altars, and a high vaulted ceiling.

Civic and Cultural Role

Today, Iglesia de Sant Vicenç Ferrer continues to play a role in Manacor’s religious and civic life, with occasional services and ceremonies still held in its nave. The former convent has also been used for cultural events, art exhibitions, and municipal gatherings, giving visitors a glimpse into both historical and contemporary life in the town.

Its central location makes it easy to combine with a visit to nearby landmarks, cafés, or shops — ideal for those wanting to explore the quieter, more traditional side of Manacor.
