Carnaval & Sa Rua

Dates: Usually held in the week before Ash Wednesday (
Where: Palma (biggest parade), plus towns and villages across Mallorca

February in Mallorca bursts into colour with Carnaval, the island’s take on Mardi Gras. The highlight is Sa Rua, Palma’s spectacular carnival parade, which transforms the city streets into a whirl of music, floats, costumes, and confetti. Hundreds of participants take part, from dance troupes and musicians to community groups dressed in elaborate themed outfits, creating a carnival atmosphere that’s as joyous for onlookers as it is for those marching. Children aren’t left out either — Palma hosts Sa Rueta, a family-friendly daytime parade full of playful floats, games, and music, making it especially popular with younger visitors.

Outside the capital, towns such as Sóller, Inca, and Manacor stage their own smaller parades and costume parties, with streets filling up with music and laughter. Traditionally, once Carnaval ends, Mallorca slips into the more reflective period of Lent, so locals really make the most of the chance to indulge — eating, drinking, and dancing until the early hours. For holidaymakers, Carnaval in Palma offers the perfect way to experience Mallorcan joy and creativity up close, while also providing plenty of photo-worthy moments.

Fira de la Flor d’Ametler – Almond Blossom Fair

Dates: First weekend of February
Where: Son Servera (Ses Cases de Ca s’Hereu estate)

The Almond Blossom Fair in Son Servera celebrates one of Mallorca’s most enchanting natural spectacles: the blossoming of the island’s almond trees in early February. For a few short weeks, the countryside is blanketed in delicate pink and white flowers, and this fair makes the most of the season by showcasing almond-based products and traditions. At the Ses Cases de Ca s’Hereu estate, visitors can browse stalls selling everything from almond oil and pastries to almond-wood crafts and handmade cosmetics. The event also features live music, folk dancing, and artisan demonstrations, creating a rustic and authentic atmosphere.

This is not just a market, but a cultural festival that highlights the importance of almonds in Mallorcan heritage. Many local families come to enjoy the day, bringing a picnic or sampling traditional dishes at food stands. For visitors, the fair is a wonderful opportunity to combine a scenic countryside trip with a taste of local gastronomy, crafts, and seasonal beauty. With the orchards in full bloom around Son Servera, the Almond Blossom Fair offers one of the most photogenic and memorable experiences of a Mallorcan winter.
