Molí d’en Fraret

The Molí d’en Fraret is one of Montuïri’s most distinctive landmarks — a beautifully preserved 18th-century flour mill that stands as a reminder of the town’s strong agricultural heritage. With its conical stone tower and restored details, it’s an excellent example of Mallorca’s traditional windmill architecture.

A Working Mill in Its Day

Built in the late 1700s, Molí d’en Fraret once ground grain for Montuïri’s residents, powered entirely by the wind. For centuries, windmills like this were essential to life in the island’s interior, turning locally grown cereals into flour for bread, pastries, and other staples.

The building’s robust stone construction, narrow entrance, and tall tapered profile are all characteristic of the “molí de vent” style used across rural Mallorca.

A Preserved Piece of History

Although it no longer operates as a working mill, Molí d’en Fraret has been carefully restored to preserve its external appearance and some of its interior mechanisms. Today, it’s most often admired from the outside, and it shares its site with the Museu Arqueològic de Son Fornés, which occupies part of the mill building.

Its location in the town makes it easy to view while exploring Montuïri’s historic streets — and it’s particularly photogenic at golden hour, when the light catches the warm stonework.
