Oratori del Cocó
The Oratori del Cocó is a small yet deeply significant chapel located on the edge of Lloseta, nestled beside the stream known as Es Cocó. Known for its intimate scale and strong ties to local religious traditions, it’s one of the town’s most cherished heritage sites.
Origins and Devotion
The oratory was built in the mid-20th century, replacing a simpler shrine that had stood here since the early 1900s. It is dedicated to the Mare de Déu del Cocó (Our Lady of the Cocó), whose image is kept inside the chapel. The site became a focal point of devotion following local reports of miracles and answered prayers linked to the Virgin’s intercession.
Its construction is modest, with whitewashed walls, a pitched roof, and a single arched doorway. Inside, the décor is equally simple, with the statue of the Virgin taking centre stage on the small altar.
Annual Pilgrimage
The oratory plays a key role in one of Lloseta’s most important religious events — the Romeria del Cocó. Each year, townspeople process from the parish church to the oratory, carrying the Virgin’s image in a celebration filled with music, flowers, and community spirit. This tradition reinforces the chapel’s place in Lloseta’s cultural identity.
Outside of festival times, the oratory is a quiet, reflective spot often visited by locals for prayer or moments of peace.
