Palau March Museum

Perched on the edge of Palma’s historic quarter, overlooking the Parc de la Mar and the harbour, the Palau March Museum combines exquisite architecture with a world-class collection of art, sculpture, and rare manuscripts. Once the private residence of the March banking family, it’s now one of the city’s most refined cultural attractions.

From Private Mansion to Public Museum

Built in the mid-20th century for financier Juan March Ordinas, the Palau March was designed to reflect both modern luxury and classical elegance. The building’s terraces and arcades frame some of Palma’s best panoramic views, while its interior offers a glimpse into the lifestyle of one of Spain’s most influential families.

In 1990, the March family opened the palace to the public, transforming it into a space for art and heritage.

Art, Sculpture & Manuscripts

The museum houses an impressive collection of modern and contemporary sculpture by artists such as Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, and Eduardo Chillida, displayed in its open-air courtyards and gardens. Inside, you’ll find 19th- and 20th-century paintings, religious art, and a remarkable nativity scene with over 2,000 figures.

One of the highlights is the collection of rare maps and manuscripts, including historical navigational charts that tell the story of Mallorca’s maritime past.

A Cultural Balcony Over Palma

With its location directly beside La Seu Cathedral, the Palau March Museum is easy to combine with other Old Town highlights. Its tranquil terraces are ideal for enjoying both the art and the views, making it as much an architectural experience as a gallery visit.
