Parc de la Mar
Stretching out below Palma’s iconic cathedral, the Parc de la Mar is one of the city’s most recognisable and relaxing open spaces. With its saltwater lake, palm-lined paths, contemporary sculptures, and postcard-perfect views of La Seu, it’s a favourite spot for locals and visitors alike — ideal for strolling, unwinding, or snapping some of the most iconic photos in Mallorca.
A Park Born from the Sea
The name “Park of the Sea” refers to its location — built in the 1970s on reclaimed land that once formed part of Palma’s natural harbour. Today, it provides a peaceful buffer between the Old Town and the waterfront, offering both recreation and reflection. The large artificial lake is meant to symbolise the sea that once lapped at the cathedral’s base, creating a striking mirror-like effect beneath the sandstone walls of La Seu.
Benches and grassy areas invite rest, while water features and occasional pop-up events give the space a lively, dynamic edge.
Art, Events & Atmosphere
In addition to its panoramic views, Parc de la Mar hosts regular open-air film nights, concerts, festivals, and art installations. You’ll often find joggers, cyclists, and street performers, especially in the late afternoon and early evening when the golden light hits the cathedral just right.
Public art installations and mosaics add colour and creativity to the landscape, while pathways connect directly to the old city walls, marina, and Passeig Marítim — making the park an ideal gateway to explore more of Palma on foot.
A Peaceful Pause by the Cathedral
Whether you want to relax in the shade of a palm tree, take in sweeping views of Palma Bay, or let the kids run around, Parc de la Mar is an ideal stop during a day of sightseeing. Its central location, beautiful views, and open layout make it one of the most photographed and loved public spaces in the city.
