Parish Church of Sant Joan Baptista & Cemetery

A Sacred Spot with Timeless Views

Set high above the village rooftops, the Parish Church of Sant Joan Baptista stands as both a place of worship and a beloved viewpoint over the Tramuntana coastline. With its whitewashed façade and terracotta tiles, this modest 18th-century church captures the understated charm of Deià — simple, soulful, and steeped in history.

A Peaceful Walk Through Local History

Reaching the church involves a short uphill walk through narrow cobbled lanes and cypress trees, rewarding visitors with panoramic views of the sea, mountains, and surrounding olive terraces. Inside the church, you’ll find traditional Mallorcan religious art, an arched ceiling, and a small wooden choir loft. Its quiet, rustic beauty is a reflection of Deià itself — contemplative and deeply connected to nature.

Final Resting Place of Robert Graves

The adjoining hilltop cemetery is one of the most evocative in Mallorca. Not only does it offer spectacular vistas, but it’s also the final resting place of famed writer Robert Graves, as well as other notable artists and residents who shaped Deià’s creative legacy. Visitors often leave pens, poems, or flowers at Graves’s grave as a tribute.
