Passeig del Born

Passeig del Born

Often referred to as Palma’s golden mile, the Passeig del Born is one of the city's most iconic and sophisticated boulevards. Lined with shady plane trees, historic mansions, and a mix of high-end boutiques and pavement cafés, it offers a stylish and leisurely way to experience the city’s vibrant heart. Whether you're here to shop, stroll, or simply soak in the atmosphere, this promenade is a must on any visit to Palma.

From Medieval Marketplace to Modern Elegance

Once a medieval tournament ground and later a popular market site, the Passeig del Born evolved over centuries into Palma’s main social and cultural thoroughfare. Today, it blends historic charm with cosmopolitan energy — a place where luxury fashion houses sit alongside 19th-century palaces and where locals gather for evening walks under the dappled light of mature trees.

At the centre of the boulevard stands a monument to Joan Alcover, a renowned Mallorcan poet, and the surrounding benches offer perfect spots for people-watching or enjoying an ice cream from a nearby heladería.

Shopping & Café Culture

The Born is home to designer boutiques such as Louis Vuitton, Hugo Boss, and Carolina Herrera, as well as Spanish high-street favourites like Zara and Massimo Dutti — many of them housed in beautifully restored heritage buildings. Scattered between them are cafés and bars where you can relax with a cortado, cocktail, or glass of cava while watching Palma life unfold.

At the lower end of the promenade, near Plaça de la Reina, you’ll find a lively cluster of restaurants and tapas bars, while the upper end connects to La Rambla and the historic quarter.

A Grand Central Axis

Often compared to Barcelona’s Passeig de Gràcia, Passeig del Born serves as a cultural and geographical axis within Palma. It's just minutes from the Cathedral, Es Baluard Museum, and Casal Solleric — making it the perfect starting point or resting point during a day of sightseeing.
