Lively Resort Setting & Historic Bay
Platja de Magaluf sits at the centre of one of Calvià’s largest and most developed resort areas, known worldwide for its vibrant nightlife, numerous hotels, bars, restaurants, and entertainment venues. The beach is heavily frequented by both tourists and locals, especially during the high season.
Historically, this area was once a wetland, long before its transformation into a resort. In earlier times, the marshy terrain served as a hideout for smugglers and outlaws. Today, it has been entirely regenerated into a long expanse of fine white sand, offering excellent conditions for swimming and sunbathing.
Illot de Sa Porrassa & Historical Significance
Offshore, about half a nautical mile from the coast, lies the small island Illot de Sa Porrassa. In 1229, it was used by King Jaume I and his fleet as a temporary shelter before landing at Santa Ponça during the conquest of Mallorca, adding a unique historical note to Magaluf's bay.
Boating & Anchoring
Anchoring is permitted along the bay’s sandy seabed, with depths ranging from 2 to 5 metres, particularly well-sheltered from the eastern winds thanks to Illot de Sa Porrassa. However, boaters should be aware of rocky areas toward the northwest, between Palmanova and Magaluf. Full marina facilities are available at Club Nàutic Palmanova, just 1.6 nautical miles away.
Access & Popularity
Access to Magaluf beach is very easy, with clearly marked signs, free street parking, and regular public transport connecting the beach to nearby areas. Thanks to its extensive facilities, Blue Flag status, and the broad range of activities available, Platja de Magaluf remains one of the most visited beaches on the island, attracting tourists from all over the world in search of sun, sea, and entertainment.
