A Rustic, Seaweed-Rich Cove Favoured by Locals
Platja de s’Algar, also known as Cala de s’Algar, sits just outside the protective bay of Port de Portocolom, marking the final beach within the municipality of Felanitx, bordering Manacor. Named after the seaweed ("alga") that frequently washes ashore, this fine-grained sandy cove has long served both locals and fishermen. The surrounding farmers once used the washed-up seaweed as a natural fertiliser.
Natural Surroundings with Clean, Clear Waters
Set within a narrow rocky inlet and framed by low scrubland, the beach’s appearance can change depending on recent storms, which either reveal or cover the sandy area. The surrounding coast, with formations like sa Cova Gran and Cova des Bufador, provides a peaceful, rugged landscape and excellent water clarity. It's a favourite for residents of Felanitx, seasonal locals, and those seeking a calm swim in natural surroundings.
Easy to Reach, Yet Quiet and Undeveloped
The cove is easily accessible by car, with clear signage leading through Portocolom. Vehicles can be parked near the rocky coastal edge adjacent to the beach, just a short walk away. Despite the ease of access, Platja de s’Algar remains uncrowded, offering a tranquil setting far from the busier tourist beaches near
