Bustling Resort Setting & Family-Friendly Atmosphere

Platja de Son Maties forms part of the Palmanova beach complex, alongside Cala Blanca and Es Carregador, within one of Calvià’s most developed resort zones. Built on the former estate of Ses Planes, construction began in 1934, making Palmanova one of the first purpose-built residential and tourist destinations on the island.

Today, Son Maties is surrounded by hotels, nightclubs, restaurants, and full tourist infrastructure, serving as a major centre for mass tourism. Despite its popularity with visitors, it also attracts many local residents due to its wide open spaces and excellent facilities.

Beach Characteristics

The beach has been artificially regenerated, with fine white sand and large expanses that shift slightly depending on seasonal sea currents. The broad shoreline and shallow waters make it a family-friendly option for swimming and sunbathing.

Boating & Anchoring

Anchoring is permitted near Punta de sa Torre Nova, which offers the best conditions, particularly when winds blow from the northeast and east. The seabed consists of sand with depths ranging from 3 to 4 metres. The nearest port facilities are at Club Nàutic Santa Ponça, located just 0.9 nautical miles away.

Access & Popularity

Access is easy via clearly marked routes with ample free parking in the surrounding area. Public transport also serves the resort, with bus stops conveniently located near the beach. Thanks to its full range of services, Blue Flag certification, extensive amenities, and vibrant resort atmosphere, Platja de Son Maties sees consistently high visitor numbers, making it one of the most popular beaches for tourists and families along Mallorca’s southwest coast.
