Scenic Setting & Resort Atmosphere
Platja d'Illetes is part of a trio of beaches known collectively as Illetes, alongside Cala Comtessa and Es Fortí. The beach’s name comes from the small offshore islets visible from the shoreline, including the nearby Illot de sa Caleta. The U-shaped inlet forms a sandy bay, bordered by medium-high cliffs, with a backdrop of tourist hotels and residential buildings nestled above.
Part of this beach once served as a restricted military area, though today it is fully open to the public and extremely popular with both locals and visitors, especially due to its proximity to Palma.
Boating & Anchoring
Anchoring is permitted off the beach in sandy waters mixed with seaweed, with depths ranging from 3 to 5 metres. The beach is exposed to winds from the northeast, east, and southeast, and small sailing boats from the nearby Escola Nacional de Vela Calanova (1.2 nautical miles) are often seen navigating the waters.
Access & Popularity
Access is easy by car, with clear signage leading into the Illetes resort area. Parking is available on nearby streets, though spaces can fill quickly in high season. A set of steps leads down to the beach from the surrounding roads. Public transport also serves Illetes, with a bus stop located right next to the beach entrance. Thanks to its central location, beautiful scenery, and excellent facilities, Platja d'Illetes is often very busy, drawing both locals and tourists who enjoy its clear waters, full amenities, and easy access from Palma.
