Resort Setting & Historic Origins
Platja La Romana, also known as Peguera Romana or Platja dels Morts, is the smallest of the three beaches that make up Peguera, alongside Palmira and Torà. The area’s name reflects its historical roots: Peguera comes from the resin ovens once used to extract sap from local pine trees; La Romana from the original estate on which this resort grew; and dels Morts due to the discovery of prehistoric tombs nearby.
Today, the beach is surrounded by hotels, residential buildings, and tourist facilities, though much of the development is softened by pine trees and coastal vegetation reaching down toward the sand.
Beach Characteristics
The beach is covered with fine white sand, with calm waters ideal for swimming. Just east of the main beach, beyond a small rocky inlet, lies a quieter stony cove, offering a peaceful alternative to the often busy main shoreline during peak season.
Boating & Anchoring
Anchoring is permitted off the beach, with good conditions for boats when winds blow from the southeast, south, or southwest. The seabed consists of sand, with depths ranging between 3 to 5 metres. The nearest port facilities are at Club Nàutic Santa Ponça, located 1.9 nautical miles away.
Access & Popularity
Access is easy, with well-marked roads leading to Peguera Torà. From there, a promenade leads directly to La Romana. Free parking is available in the area, and public transport also serves the resort, with a bus stop located nearby. Thanks to its central location, easy access, full amenities, and Blue Flag certification, Platja La Romana is very popular, consistently drawing both locals and tourists throughout the high season.
