Traditional Setting & Coastal Charm

Port des Canonge is a small, unspoilt fishing port located along the scenic coast of Banyalbufar, within the rugged landscape of the Serra de Tramuntana. While a small village has developed nearby, the cove retains its authentic character, with traditional fishing boats occupying much of the narrow beach. The shoreline consists of gravel, coarse pebbles, and deposits of posidonia seagrass, while scrubland and pine trees frame the steep platform behind the beach.

Limited Space & Boating Traditions

Due to the presence of numerous small boats, which are either beached or secured in traditional escars (dry docks), there is limited space for sunbathing. The boats are kept well-tied to prevent being pushed ashore during periods of strong swell.

Boating & Anchoring

Anchoring is not recommended at Port des Canonge, as the cove is fully exposed to winds from the northwest and east. For those attempting to anchor, the seabed consists of gravel and rock, with depths ranging from 3 to 5 metres, though such manoeuvres should only be attempted during the day and with caution. The nearest port facilities are located at Port de Sóller, approximately 9.1 nautical miles away.

Access & Popularity

Access is easy by car, following well-marked signs, though the final 6 kilometres involve a narrow, winding road with sharp 180-degree curves. Free parking is available nearby. Hiking access is also possible via the scenic Volta des General trail, connecting Banyalbufar and Port des Canonge, or via another path leading towards Port de Valldemossa. Despite its charm and accessibility, Port des Canonge remains moderately visited, mostly attracting local visitors and walkers seeking a peaceful, traditional setting along Mallorca’s north coast.
