S'Albufera Natural Park – Mallorca’s Birdwatching Paradise

Discover the wild heart of northern Mallorca at S’Albufera Natural Park, the island’s largest and most ecologically important wetland. Located between Muro and Sa Pobla, this protected natural reserve spans over 1,700 hectares of marshland, separated from the Bay of Alcúdia by a belt of coastal dunes. Whether you're a nature lover, a keen birdwatcher, or simply looking for a peaceful escape, S'Albufera offers a truly immersive outdoor experience.

A Haven for Wildlife and Migratory Birds

S’Albufera is a biodiversity hotspot, home to more than 250 bird species, especially vibrant during the spring and autumn migration seasons. Bring your binoculars and head to one of the four walking or cycling routes that guide you through lush reed beds, tamarind groves, and poplar woods. Look out from dedicated observation hides where you may spot grey herons, bitterns, and the elusive moustached warbler, which has one of its largest European populations here. With luck, you might even catch sight of ospreys or Eleonora’s falcons, particularly in the warmer months.

Perfect for a Peaceful Day Out in Nature

The park’s rich ecosystem also supports frogs, eels, snakes, turtles, and over 26 species of fish, making it a thriving hub of Mediterranean wetland life. With its well-marked trails and tranquil atmosphere, S'Albufera Natural Park is an ideal destination for solo visitors, families, and birding enthusiasts alike. It’s one of the top free things to do in Mallorca if you're exploring the Alcúdia region or nearby resorts.

Practical Information for Visitors

Entry to the park is free of charge, and it is open daily from 09:00 to 16:00. You can access the reserve on foot or by bike via the Pont dels Ingresos bridge. Don’t forget your camera—this is one of the most photogenic spots in Mallorca for wildlife and nature lovers.

Tip: Bring binoculars and avoid visiting in the heat of midday. There are no food facilities inside the park, so bring water and snacks if staying a while.
