Scenic Setting & Historical Interest

Platja de Sant Joan is one of the few sandy beaches along this otherwise rocky section of Alcudia’s coastline. The beach lies close to Castell de Manresa, a 28-metre-high fortress built to defend the Bay of Pollença, alongside La Fortalesa across the bay. The castle sits just a few hundred metres from the beach, offering a dramatic historic backdrop to this peaceful cove.

Beach Composition

The beach features white, fine-grained sand, framed by rocky areas and backed by coastal vegetation including thistles and pine trees. Although local housing developments have reduced parts of the original dune system, much of the natural landscape remains intact, stabilised by surrounding vegetation.

Boating & Anchoring

This part of the coast is generally not recommended for anchoring due to shallow depths and exposure to strong northern winds. However, for skilled navigators, there is a sandy seabed with a depth of around 3 metres approximately 200 metres offshore. The closest port facilities are located at Marina de Donaire (Cocodrilo), just 0.5 nautical miles away.

Access & Popularity

Access by car is straightforward by following signs to the nearby village of Mal Pas. A free parking area is available close by, with stair access leading down to the beach. Thanks to its location and smaller size, Platja de Sant Joan typically enjoys moderate visitor numbers, offering a quieter atmosphere compared to Alcudia’s larger beaches.
