From Dunes to Development

The final stretch of the famous Platja de Palma, S’Arenal marks the boundary where the beach transitions into the municipality of Llucmajor—though in atmosphere, the change is nearly imperceptible. Once home to a dune ecosystem, the area underwent significant changes in the 1980s when 400,000 tons of sand were added to restore its size. Today, S’Arenal boasts fine sand and a gentle slope, making it ideal for families with children, despite the loss of its original vegetation.

A Port and a Promenade

Adjacent to Club Nàutic s’Arenal, the beach is supported by solid marine infrastructure and is framed by a palm-lined promenade that replaced the old, car-heavy seafront in the late 20th century. The coastline here is known for its towering hotel developments, which began springing up in the 1960s and now form one of the densest concentrations of hotels in the Mediterranean.

Easily Reached, Always Busy

Access is straightforward by public transport, with a bus stop just 50 metres away, though no nearby parking makes driving less convenient. As one of the clearest examples of mass tourism on the island, S’Arenal is almost always busy, drawing thousands of holidaymakers during the high season. For travellers seeking a lively beach environment with full services and a classic resort atmosphere, S’Arenal delivers exactly that.
