A Quiet Corner Rich in History

Tucked between Sa Ràpita and Es Trenc, Es Freu de ses Covetes offers a small, peaceful retreat far from the larger crowds. Its name, meaning “small caves”, comes from the Talayotic funeral caves discovered in the area. This is a beach of white fine sand with a gentle slope, split into two distinct zones:

  • A sandy section closer to Sa Ràpita, often used by swimmers.

  • A more rocky, picturesque section (Es Freu) that’s quieter and more secluded.

Protected Natural Area

The beach sits within the Àrea Natural Protegida es Trenc-Salobrar de Campos, and previous attempts at urban development were stopped by court rulings to protect its natural state.

Historical Highlights

The nearby marès quarries once supplied stone for Palma’s Renaissance defence walls. Additionally, the area features a thermal spring at 38°C, known since Roman times for its healing properties, still used today at the Estación Termal de Sant Joan de la Fontsanta.

Access & Practical Information

Access is easy by car, with free parking available next to the beach. The nearest bus stop is approximately 100 metres away. Its tranquil atmosphere and untouched surroundings make Es Freu de ses Covetes a lovely spot for those seeking serenity away from Mallorca’s more popular beaches.
