Historical Setting & Striking Landscape

El Toro, also known as Ses Penyes Roges or Racó de sa Fragata, lies in a U-shaped inlet formed between Punta Prima and Sa Punta des Carregador. The name derives from the nearby Illot del Toro, historically serving as an entry point for Arab fleets accessing Palma (formerly Medina Mayurqa) during their rule of Mallorca prior to the 13th century.

The beach features fine golden sand, set against a dramatic vertical cliff of reddish rock—the result of iron oxide deposits—giving rise to the name Ses Penyes Roges (The Red Rocks). A residential village now sits atop these cliffs, contributing to the beach’s popularity.

Boating & Anchoring

While anchoring is rarely seen due to the beach’s proximity to the entrance of Port Adriano, navigators should know that the anchoring conditions are excellent for small craft, with sandy seabeds mixed with seaweed and depths ranging from 3 to 5 metres. Port Adriano, one of the most modern marinas in Mallorca, offers full port services right next to the beach.

Access & Popularity

Access is very easy by car, following well-marked signs, with free parking available nearby. Public transport also serves the area, with a bus stop located within walking distance. Thanks to its location within a developed residential area, its proximity to Port Adriano, and its Blue Flag status, El Toro experiences high visitor numbers, attracting local residents and tourists seeking a fully serviced, easily accessible beach with clear, calm waters.
