Tranvía de Sóller

Tranvía de Sóller

Through the Groves to the Sea

A Journey Back in Time

Since 1913, the Tranvía de Sóller has been carrying passengers between the town of Sóller and the Port de Sóller on one of Mallorca’s most scenic short rail journeys. The beautifully preserved wooden trams, with polished interiors and brass fittings, evoke the golden age of travel and offer a nostalgic step back in time. Every ride is accompanied by the gentle clatter of wheels on rails and the fresh scent of the valley’s citrus groves.

The Scenic Route

Covering just under 5 kilometres, the route winds from the Plaça de sa Constitució through a landscape of orange and lemon orchards, past stone farmhouses, and alongside the sparkling waters of the Mediterranean as it approaches the port. Large open windows allow for uninterrupted views of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains and the charming coastal village ahead, making it a favourite for photographers and families alike.

A Living Piece of Heritage

The Sóller tram is not only a tourist attraction — it’s still a vital link for locals, connecting the inland town with its harbour. Each tram is lovingly maintained, many still running with original components from over a century ago. Riding it feels less like public transport and more like joining a moving piece of living history that has survived wars, storms, and the passage of time.

Making the Most of Your Trip

Trams run frequently throughout the day, and tickets can be purchased onboard or in combination with the Ferrocarril de Sóller train from Palma for a seamless mountain-and-sea adventure. For the most atmospheric experience, ride in the late afternoon when the golden light washes over the valley and the port glistens ahead. Whether you’re visiting for the romance of vintage travel or simply for the scenery, the Tranvía de Sóller is an unmissable part of the town’s identity.
